Year 24: We Worship God

Visible Music College starts every day with prayer and worship.

Whether it is small groups, individuals, staff prayer, 7am worship, or just a prayer for success on a midterm test, Visible Music College comes alive every day with God the Holy Spirit waking us into new possibilities. Twice a week we get to come together for Gathered Worship (since all of our individual life is constant worship as we give our time to the Lord daily). We gather and sing some of the same songs you hear at church weekly (although we all attend a variety of churches) and some new ones - maybe even just melodies before the Lord that are new in the moment to remind ourselves that we were created to worship. And, since we say around Visible that “we are created to create”, I guess we are creating as we worship every week together. We are definitely inviting God to speak to us, his people.

Listening is a tremendous offering to God.

A lot of church time is spent noisily these days. That is not necessarily bad because God does want his people to be demonstrative in our worship and let our shackles of despair, concern, and irritation drop off as we listen and engage with music and gathered worship. Sometimes though, silence does it just right too. At a music school, with ready players at hand at very moment, singers who know melody and harmony inside and out, and tunes floating through he heads in the room, we sometimes have to fight for our quiet here. Maybe you do too. We have to make room in community for worship of all types and love when God speaks, soft or firm. It helps to have some simple prayers that are repeatable and familiar to quiet your soul and rehearse truths from scripture to yourself.

Coming together to listen in creative Christian community is a godly practice and always worth it - even if you are alone in the gathering.

Like coming to the table for a good meal, joining in worship with family and supportive community is a fulfilling experience, even if at times a challenge to transition fully from one thing to another. We meet at 11a on Tuesday and Thursday and spend other times in Life Together groups, Accountability, and City Eyes service. It is a lot to do but it is vital to our faith practice to be together, study alone, refresh and listen, jump and release - whatever God is prompting for worship in you and most of all - responding. We are Christians - "little Christs". Some of the only Bible people will ever know is from our lips and from our treatment of them, so we need to be in God’s presence to draw in closer and remember to respond well.

We worship God because we were created thus. Thus we will be open again today as we wrap up 25 years of ministry in this same schedule with hundreds of different members of the community.
